Receipes from yesterday

Hey kids!
Just wanted to thank Modern Drunkard for having us at the Drunkard National Convention. Special thanks to Rich and Sid Pink. We had a blast and hope you did too!
By request, we wanted to share the recipes from the presentation.

Sidecar

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 oz bourbon, brandy or Cognac
  • 3/4 oz Cointreau
  • 1/4 oz lemon juice
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake lightly. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. LUPEC Member Vivienne VaVoom (aka The Vamp) recommends sugaring the rim with a citrus-flavored sugar and garnishing with a lemon twist.
*A little history to go with this drink: The Sidecar was created in Paris during WWI as a pre-dinner cocktail.

Pink
Ingredients:
  • 2 oz Watermelon Pucker
  • 1 oz Pomegranate Vodka
  • 3oz Guava nectar
  • Splash of Fresca or Sprite
  • Lime
Pour Watermelon Pucker, Pomegranate Vodka and Guava nectar into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Add splash of Fresca and a lime wedge.
*"Pink" isn't exactly a classic/endangered cocktail, but it is delicious.

Scarlett O'Hara
Ingredients:
  • 2 oz Southern Comfort
  • 6 oz Cranberry Juice
  • 1 wedge of lime
Pour 2 oz Southern Comfort over ice in a highball glass. Fill with cranberry juice. Squeeze one wedge of lime into drink. Stir and serve.
*SoCo has been produced since 1874 and is made from a blend of whiskey, peach, apricot, orange, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon flavors. The Scarlett O'Hara was one of the earliest Southern Comfort-based cocktails to be marketed.

Brandy Alexander
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 oz brandy
  • 1 oz dark creme de cacao
  • 1 oz half & half
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with nutmeg.
*The Brandy Alexander was know as John Lennon's favorite drink.

Cheers!

Sunday Booze and Pop Rocks....

A few of us spent Sunday evening creating drink recipes for an upcoming charity roller skating party.

We found that rimming your glass with pop rocks makes for a very interesting drinking experience and putting pop rocks on a lime provides a fun kick after a shot.

The best part of the whole night was the knowledge that if we ran out of booze, we could pick some up because Denver finally allows alcohol sales on Sundays (as of July 1st)! This is the first time that liquor stores can sell alcohol on Sundays since the Prohibition.

Thank you Denver....thank you for making it easier for us LUPEC gals in Denver to do what we do best 7 days a week!

And they're off!

The 134th Kentucky Derby is celebrated this Saturday. Now, I've never really been into horse racing, but I am certainly into Mint Juleps (and giant fancy hats).
The Mint Julep became Churchill Down's signature drink in 1938, but originated in the eighteenth century.

How To Make A Mint Julep
(from cocktails.about.com)

Ingredients:
  • leaves from 4-5 mint sprigs
  • 2 sugar cubes or 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 2 1/2 oz bourbon
  • mint sprig for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Place the mint and simple syrup or sugar into a julep cup, collins glass or double old-fashioned glass.
  2. Muddle well to dissolve the sugar and to release the oil and aroma of the mint.
  3. Add the bourbon.
  4. Fill with crushed ice and stir well until the glass becomes frosty.
  5. Garnish with the mint sprig.

Fix yourself a mint julep and countdown the days to LUPEC Denver's Fourth Annual Breakfast for Boobs on May 11th!

Gearing up for B4B4!

I sent out an email to a whole slew of people today about our 4th Annual Breakfast for Boobs and one of the responses I got from a guy friend was:
"I wish I could go. I love boobs!"

So do we, Geoffrey. So do we.

Here's the scoop on this year's B4B:

The Annual LUPEC Breakfast for Boobs
Mother's Day
Sunday, May 11th, 5-9pm
Hot Cakes Diner
1400 E. 18th Avenue

The LUPEC girls are so excited to get our aprons on and wait on all of you! Having waited tables all through college, and having pretty much gotten fed up with people by the end of that time, I'm not quite sure why it's so fun. Maybe cuz we only have to do it for a few hours. Maybe cuz we know all our work is going right to a great cause. Maybe cuz you're all just so generous and so much fun to be around.

Proceeds from the evening go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Denver Metro chapter), and other local organizations that help women achieve early diagnoses of breast cancer, regain their health, and work toward its cure.

Hope to see you there!
